Most people who find East Mental Health Counseling in New York have already tried to understand the problem. That's not what's been missing.
Most people who come to East already understand their patterns. They know what the anxiety is, where the relationship dynamic comes from, why they push so hard and still don't feel like it's enough. What they haven't found is a method that actually changes it. That gap between knowing and changing is exactly where we work.
We are a telehealth practice serving New York State.
We work with high-achieving professionals across the state, from Manhattan and Brooklyn to Westchester, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and the Capital Region. The geography is different.
The thing underneath the pattern is usually the same: a belief, formed early and stored in the nervous system, about what a person has to do or be in order to be safe, loved, or enough. That belief is what drives the anxiety, the burnout, the relationships that keep repeating, the success that never quite settles. And it is what EMDR therapy is specifically designed to reach.

Why insight alone has a ceiling, and what sits beneath it
Most therapy in New York works at the level of understanding. That's not a criticism. Understanding is genuinely useful. It just has a ceiling, and the ceiling is where the belief lives. Because the belief isn't stored as a thought. It was encoded in the nervous system from specific experiences, often early enough that the experiences themselves don't feel significant anymore. But the nervous system drew conclusions from them and has been applying those conclusions ever since.
That's why you can hold two things at once: I know intellectually that I've earned this, and I still can't shake the feeling that I haven't. Both are real. They're just running in different systems. Talk therapy works in the first system. The belief lives in the second.
EMDR was developed to work directly with the second system. It's the most extensively researched trauma therapy method we have, and it works at the level of the nervous system's stored memory rather than conscious thought. Not by talking around the old belief, but by processing the specific experiences where it got formed and updating what the nervous system learned from them. The change isn't something you think yourself into. It happens where the belief actually lives.

Who we work with across New York State
East works best with people who are high-functioning and self-aware and tired of insight without change. People who have often already done significant work on themselves and are frustrated that it hasn't moved the thing that needs moving.
The presenting issue varies. Anxiety that won't respond to logic. Burnout that persists through rest. Relationship patterns that repeat regardless of how well the person understands them. Trauma that talk therapy has addressed but not fully resolved. A career that looks successful and feels hollow. The root is usually the same across all of them.

Telehealth EMDR therapy across New York, and how it works in practice
East Mental Health Counseling is led by Erica Tringali, a licensed mental health counselor and EMDR-trained therapist in New York. We operate entirely via telehealth, which means sessions happen wherever you are in the state. No commute, no waiting room, full confidentiality. For most clients that's not a compromise. It's just more practical.
The work follows five stages: mapping what you actually believe underneath the pattern, understanding the neuroscience of why the nervous system does what it does, approaching the belief with genuine curiosity rather than shame, processing it through EMDR until the nervous system updates what it learned, and then making different choices in real life. The last stage is what makes the change permanent. We stay in it with you through all of them.
